Welcome

Welcome to the Breathitt County Honey Festival's webpage.

We are celebrating the 39th Annual Breathitt County Honey Festival. The festival was started in 1977 by a group of local business people and interested citizens to promote the local beekeeping industry and local craft businesses. Little did they know we would still be going stronger than ever, 39 years later!

Breathitt County has a strong local history of craftsmanship, industry, and self reliance. Many residents of the county can trace their ancestry back to the very early 1800's.

Many generations of craftsmen and women have passed down to their children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren their love and respect of the land. They have also passed along family traditions, and secrets of the trade for handmade crafts, special recipes, gardening tips and family roots.

If you were born in these mountains, you may leave the mountains, but the values and love instilled in you never leaves your heart. That is why we always return whenever we can.

The Honey Festival is always a time of local celebration, and numerous family reunions. Join us for The Honey Bowl, the Saturday Parade, the Labor Day 5K Run and 2K Walk, Live Music all weekend on the Broadway Stage, the Community Worship Service on Sunday, wonderful handmade crafts on display in the Big Tent, and local and regional food on sale all week-end.

Join us for a day or for the weekend. Visit and get to know our friendly mountain folks. You are only a visitor once, the second time you are family.
